They already got my real money, and think they have the right to shit on the last bit of customers they have by stealing? You’re biased bc you work there and had to see her get frustrated at their idiot choices, they simply didn’t want to honor what was already purchased another way to not loose any more money they already spent.
I had a gift card as well, and I had no clue they were not accepting them. It’s not customers job to keep track of every shit decision businesses make aka bedbathandbeyond. Because if it was, you would have waited the extra day to beyond store something instead of ordering from Amazon, or you would have actually shopped at our store instead of just showing up to desecrate our bathroom and make our conversion look like ass because everyone in the group kept having to run out to the car for their glasses or whatever. Like I'm not impressed by you saying that my place of work is your fave. You could have sent one of those singing mascots to that person's job with balloons and cake and a sandwich board sign, and that person would still come unglued because the store is closing and they had no idea even though you're halfway through liquidation. My point is that customers love to talk about how much they live, laugh, and love BB&B but they don't know the most obvious stuff.
We didn't decide to brick up the old entrance and move the door fifty feet to the right as part of the remodel. Like, no, you've always entered into cookware and basics and electrics and made your way around to bath. But I'm talking so off their rocker that customers INSISTED that we literally moved the front door to the other side of the building because "it used to wrap to the right from the front door". No hate on people who didn't shop there weekly, because it's not the kind of place you'd have to go to super often unless you've just moved into a new place or are redecorating. I've just never had to do it.One of the biggest tropes I saw among the customers who shopped at my store was people being so madly in love with BB&B because it's their ~favorite~ store and they come AlL tHe TiMe, but it's obviously their first time in years stepping foot in the store. What does a manager do? I'm a senior department level manager and I've still never had to do a till loan cause we've given out too much change or had too many cash returns. Has anyone worked at a store where they've been so low on physical cash? When they've given out too much change. Factor in the same for merchandise credits too. The stores would run out of cash quickly. Not to mention the amount of things people post about online. "My best friend Debra said the Main St location did this for her". Now factor in the word of mouth problem that would ensue. Not to mention the amount of change orders needing to be done to keep the minimum requirement of cash on site. It would be a disaster for us and paying customers with cash needing change back. Anyone with key turn access knows how much we keep in the safe and each registers minimum float. Imagine they cashed them all out at the store level. When the time comes for BBB to file for bankruptcy they'll inform you on what measures they plan to take on compensating customers with gift cards. Tl dr: Just be straightforward and tell them that you can't exchange gift cards for cash.
God knows there is going to people coming at you left and right wanting to talk about the bankruptcy. For all we know BBB might just set up a system to allow customers to use them online. One last thing, don't ever give the impression that their gift cards will definitely be exchanged for cash towards the end of the bankruptcy. Welcome them to continue shopping around the store but tell them that you unfortunately will be unable to assist them with converting their gift cards into cash. Tell them for now the gift are still useful and the company has not filed for bankruptcy so unfortunately there aren't any measures to give monetary compensation for their gift cards. That all said if a customer comes up with a question which is similar in nature. In reality what you most likely will see happen is that BBB will instruct the store on what steps will be taken with the gift cards. This is all of course under a scenario that BBB decides to follow a similar format as my company. Assuming that BBB was to follow the exact same path of filing for chapter 11 bankruptcy as my company (which is highly unlikely) she would be able to file a claim through a website, or something of that nature, to reclaim some of her money. I used to work for a company that also went bankrupt and it wasn't until the final weeks that people were no longer able to use their gift cards.
